Around half of the Australian population currently has private health cover – but many of us don’t know what we’re covered for, how we should be best using it and if we could be getting a better deal somewhere else.
Have a think about your answers to the following questions:
- Who is covered by your policy?
- Is it the right set of people?
- If you have children, are they still covered?
- What health conditions do you and your family want to be covered for?
- Are you covered for those?
- If you’ve used your insurance, were you happy with your cover?
- If not, what else did you need?
- How much do you pay?
- Do you have preferred health practitioners?
- Does your insurer have contracts with them?
How to check:
- PrivateHealth.gov.au- the federal government website with details about Private Health Insurance. Search for your health fund and your policy to find the details of what you’re covered for.
- Your insurer’s website – look for the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) for the most detailed information
