The Medical Benefits Policy
This project provided resourcing to enable consumer-centred policy input into the work of the Department of Health and Ageing’s Medical Benefits Division. The Medical Benefits Division is responsible for providing policy advice to Government on the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) and private health insurance.
This project aimed to maximise opportunities for consumer perspectives to be adequately and effectively incorporated within the work of the Medical Benefits Division through:
- The provision of consumer-centred policy advice on issues related to the MBS and private health insurance
- Consumer consultations to inform CHF’s policy advice to the Medical Benefits Division and Government
- The provision of support and advice to consumer representatives currently on committees relevant to the work of the Medical Benefits Division, including the Medical Services Advisory Committee and its subcommittees, and the Prostheses List Advisory Committee and its Clinical Advisory Groups
- The development of consumer resources to encourage increased consumer participation into the Medical Services Advisory Committee process for adding or amending health services or procedures on the MBS.
The Medical Benefits Policy Project was funded by the Department of Health and Ageing.
