Consumers Health Forum of Australia (CHF) is the national peak body representing health consumers. We work to make sure healthcare in Australia is accessible, affordable and safe.
Since the 1980s, CHF has drawn on consumer and community knowledge and experience to relentlessly drive improvements to the Australian health system.
We are the independent ‘voice’ of health consumers, we amplify their views, and we advocate for their needs. We believe in “nothing about us, without us”.
We have a seat at the table, especially in national policy forums, influencing when and how key healthcare decisions are made, implemented and evaluated.
Our Members, which include lots of disease advocacy groups and professional organisations, represent millions of Australians. This diversity ensures we have the capacity and credibility to provide deep, well-informed consumer insights and perspectives to governments and other decision makers.
Primarily funded by the Australian Government’s Department of Health and Aged Care, most of CHF’s activities are focused on the accessibility and affordability of primary health care services, medicines, health literacy, digital health and prevention.
CHF acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of Australia and is a strong supporter of Closing the Gap initiatives and believes in the right for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to self-determine their health and community needs.
We are registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission.
CHF has offices in Canberra and Melbourne.
