The Diagnostic Imaging Advisory Committee (DIAC) commenced in 2012, to assist with the implementation of the Diagnostic Imaging Review Package. In 2015, DISC has continued as a committee (on a four yearly basis) to discuss issues relating to diagnostic imaging  and the diagnostic imaging sector. DIAC has recently changed its name to the Diagnostic Imaging Stakeholder Committee (DISC) to better reflect its role.

Expressions of interest are invited for one consumer position on this committee. The appointee will be nominated by Consumers Health Forum.  

Purpose

The role of the Committee is to provide a forum for the Department to consult with stakeholders on diagnostic imaging matters relating to the Medicare Benefits Schedule. DISC provides a forum for the Department of Health and Aged Care to engage with diagnostic imaging stakeholders, including industry, clinicians, government, and consumer representatives, more broadly.

Roles and responsibilities

Discuss issues relating to the diagnostic imaging sector, including: a.diagnostic imaging policy and regulatory issues relating to Medicare, including the provision of advice on technical policy changes to ensure legislation is aligned with contemporary clinical practice; and b. changes and trends in the utilisation of diagnostic imaging services.

Members responsibilities include:

  • Consider the agenda prior to the scheduled meeting
  • Participate in the DISC meeting (or organisation to nominate a proxy to attend if member is unable to attend)
  • Provide comment at the meeting if appropriate
  • Consider the Minutes
  • Communicate with the DISC Secretariat as appropriate

Duration

The appointment will be from 1 February 2024 to 30 June 2027

Virtual meetings will be held twice a year. It is anticipated that the meetings will be four hours duration and will be held in March and September. The first meeting is scheduled for 13 March 2024. There may be occasions where face-to-face meetings will occur.

Remuneration

Consumers will be paid sitting fees, currently $448 per day (equivalent 5 hours). Should there be a face-to-face meeting, the Department will cover travel, accommodation (if required) and any associated costs.
