5 March 2024 - 11:00am to 12:00pm

The Australian Government has prioritised recommendations to improve primary care. This includes a review of barriers and incentives for health practitioners to work to their full scope of practice.

Professor Mark Cormack is the independent lead reviewer for the Unleashing the Potential of our Health Workforce (Scope of Practice) Review.

In partnership with the Consumers Health Forum of Australia, Professor Cormack invited health consumers to a webinar on Tuesday 5 March 2024.

Following the webinar, CHF will be running a 90-minute roundtable for you to share their thoughts, which will be a paid opportunity for selected consumers on 1:00-2:30 pm AEDT on Tues 26 March 2024. Applications are open, apply here by Wed 13 Mar 2024

The roundtable will focus on the release of Issues Paper #1.

Issues Paper #1 analysises the evidence collected from submissions, literature review and stakeholder consultations from Phase 1 of the Review. It provides an overview, outlines the emerging themes, and sets the scene for the next steps.

To participate in the roundtable, selected consumers will need to have watched the webinar, either live or later, on-demand.

The Strengthening Medicare Taskforce Report explored critical areas for government action to redesign primary care as the core of an effective, modern health system. The report recommended governments work together to review the barriers and incentives for primary health care professionals working to their full scope of practice.

The Unleashing the Potential of our Health Workforce, Scope of Practice Review commenced in September 2023, led by Professor Mark Cormack, a highly accomplished health system and public policy executive and the former chief executive of Health Workforce Australia. The review is examining barriers and incentives health professionals face working to their full scope of practice in primary care.

Professor Cormack is conducting an intensive program of meetings and briefings throughout each of the review’s four stages. The first online submission process was held from 11 Sept to 16 Oct 2023 and received more than 700 contributions.

The release of Issues Paper 1 on 23 January 2024 marked the beginning of the second phase of the review and a second public submission process.
