Adjunct Professor Darryl O’Donnell - Consumer and Community Advisory Group | National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) 

Darryl is an experienced health leader with a 30 year track record in community, research and public sector roles. He recently established a consulting company allowing him to work with a wider range of organisations to improve consumers’ experience of health care.

His tenure as CEO of Health Equity Matters saw him lead Australia’s HIV response, brokering reforms that have halved incidence and put Australia on track to end HIV transmission. At the Mental Health Commission of NSW, he established a new public sector agency, driving major mental health reforms. His academic contributions and research partnerships in public administration and health policy have earned him an adjunct professorship at the University of NSW. He is a passionate consumer advocate, serving on the Board of the Consumers Health Forum of Australia and promoting reforms to research governance and administration through the National Health and Medical Research Council. He is currently chairing the review of the CHF and NHMRC National Statement on Consumer and Community Involvement in Health and Medical Research.        


Melissa Le Mesurier - Consumer Representative and Chair, Cancer Consumer Advisory Committee | Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre Alliance (VCCC) 

Melissa has been a consumer advocate for over two decades. She is particularly passionate about promoting consumer leadership in health and medical research. In addition to her role with VCCC Alliance, she is a member of ANZUP’s consumer advisory panel and a Board Member of Lung Foundation Australia.

Leonie Young - Consumer Representative, Consumer Advisory Panel | Australian and New Zealand Urogenital and Prostate Cancer Trials Group & Former Chair of Breast Cancer Trials Consumer Advisory Panel

Leonie Young has been a member of the ANZUP CAP since 2017 and a supporter and mentor for the CAP since 2012. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and through her family, has personal experience and understanding of other cancers including prostate cancer. Since her diagnosis she has been involved with many aspects of cancer consumer advocacy, support, training, and mentoring and contributes in numerous research initiatives as an experienced consumer representative with researchers both nationally and internationally. She regularly presents at conferences concerning topics relating to the lived experience.

Leonie is the Peer Support Coordinator for the Wesley Hospital Choices Cancer Support Centre (Choices) in Brisbane and an inaugural member and immediate past Chair of the Breast Cancer Trials Consumer Advisory Panel. She is the recipient of an Honorary Degree of Doctor of the University, Griffith University, Brisbane and the Reach to Recovery International Terese Lasser Award both in recognition of distinguished service to the community, particularly as an advocate for people diagnosed with cancer.
