29 October 2024

This year CHF became more visible, viable and vital during the 2023–24 financial year. We expanded our influence and improved our financial position following a substantial funding commitment by the Australian Government in the 2023 Federal Budget.

We contributed to several key government enquiries and committees and promoted thought leadership on topics such as AI (Artificial Intelligence) in healthcare, women’s health and the health impacts of climate change. CHF is pleased to present the Annual Report for 2023–2024 which outlines our key achievements and activities over the past year.

The Annual Report 2023-2024 was presented at CHF's AGM on 29 October 2024.

This year has set CHF on an exciting trajectory as we work towards achieving safe, good quality, timely healthcare for all Australians, supported by the best health information and systems the country can afford.

Securing sustainable funding in May 2023 was the result of an effective pre-Budget campaign which saw more than 6,000 Australians sign a petition asking the newly elected Albanese Government to listen to the voice of health consumers.

Consumers want input into how their health services are designed, and by receiving this four-year funding, CHF will be able to better engage with our members, key stakeholders and consumers before decisions are made. We will also aim to get their grassroots feedback on the implementation of new services or policies which will feed into evaluation, and hopefully, continual improvement.

The year 2021–22 was significant on several fronts, not just for CHF but the wider health sector. To the relief of everyone in Australia, and beyond, the Covid-19 pandemic began to subside in early 2022 although its impact will be felt for many years to come. In our 2021-22 Annual Report you can read about how CHF played an important role in voicing consumer concerns during the pandemic, as well as contributing to several key initiatives including the Australian Government’s Preventative Health Strategy 2021-2030

2020–21 was a year like no other in healthcare. The Covid-19 pandemic put enormous strain on our community, families and friends. It presented challenges to our health system – both public health units, general practice as well as hospitals – and posed challenges to policy-makers. This environment translated into a busy yet and productive time for CHF as we focused on business as usual as well as playing our role in bringing consumers insights to the pandemic response.  The 2020–21 year also saw CHF advise on several national health reform initiatives and reflecting the consumer voice in major events and media commentary.  Read about our year in 2020-2021

CHF is committed to serving as advocates in the ongoing development and improvement of Australian health policy and practice. We strive to ensure that we constructively and comprehensively continue to bring consumer insights to national policy discussions and discourse. It became apparent that the consumer voice will be all the more important as we embark on a journey of health policy and service reform that adapts our system to respond to ‘COVID normal’.
